The City of Phoenix issued a Request for Proposals (RFP) in 2007 for affordable, detached, single-family infill housing in South Phoenix Village, a distressed neighborhood undergoing reinvestment and targeted revitalization by the city. The Stardust Center teamed with Mandalay Investments, a locally-owned development and construction firm, to respond to the RFP. The Center’s design solution utilizes narrow 26′-wide homes on 36′-wide lots to enable the development of 121 units on the city’s existing 88 lots. The infill designs include both front-loaded and alley-loaded parking, and incorporate L-shaped courtyards to create more climate-responsive, family-oriented homes. The Center’s submission was a finalist in the RFP selection process.
